Looking to sell your home? Moving on to a new chapter in your life can be an exciting process! There are a number of tips and tricks you can use in order to raise the value of your property and make your home more appealing to potential buyers. One of the easiest tricks is to focus on the colors of your home. Utilizing an appropriate color palette for both the interior and exterior of your home can make your property seem more attractive, spacious, and well-maintained.
Using your own unique vision to transform your house into an expression of your personality is one of the best things about being a homeowner. But with that being said, most buyers don’t really want to see a house that is tailored to fit you, no matter how well-decorated it is. People who are looking to buy a home want to see a blank canvas; it makes it easier for them to envision themselves living in the house and incorporating their own sense of style in the décor.
When prepping your home for sale, it is best to stick to a cool neutral palette for your interior. Studies done by websites like Zillow have shown that houses featuring interiors on the light blue/ pale gray end of the spectrum tended to sell for thousands of dollars more than houses that had boldly colored interiors, or those that featured warmer neutral tones like pinks and yellows. Part of this is because these lighter neutrals have the ability to make a room seem larger and more open, while at the same time avoiding the sterile feel of pure white walls. Pale blue shades are also very complementary to white counter tops, which are extremely common in kitchens and bathrooms.
The one exception to this rule would be the living room. In the main living area, it is best to rely on a gentle brown shade (like light beige, taupe, etc.). Living rooms are where we gather to entertain and bond with our family and friends, so a warmer shade helps to give that area a cozier, homier feel.
Choosing the best color for your home exterior is perhaps even more important than a well-painted interior. After all, the outside of your home is what the buyer sees first! On average, Zillow found that homes painted with a gray-beige tone (“greige”) sold on average for about $1,526 more than homes painted in other shades. If your home has a lot of stylish architectural features, it may be best to combine a pale neutral color with darker accents in order to draw the eye to the most attractive elements.
While it may be tempting to stick with more eye-catching colors like yellows and greens, remember: you want your home to appeal to the widest audience possible. Gray-toned neutrals will always be your best bet.
At first blush, re-painting your home might seem like a quick do-it-yourself project. But if you want to ensure that your home looks on-point for all of your buyers, then you should really consider going with a professional painting service.
If you’re on the fence, here’s a few reasons why hiring a professional painter is the best decision for getting your home open-house ready:
1. Guaranteed Quality
A professional will be able to give your home a perfectly applied coat of paint both inside and out, without risking streaking, uneven edges, missing spots, or other unsightly mistakes. At Boston Painting Co., it’s our job to be as detail-oriented as possible. We’ll leave no nook or cranny overlooked.
2. No Wasted Time or Money
Painting a house takes a lot more than swiping a brush along the walls. A professional painter will know the techniques to get the job done efficiently and will help take care of any prep work (filling holes in the walls, priming, etc.). They will also be able to spend their entire day focusing on the task, which leaves your time open to take care of your other responsibilities.
A professional will be equipped with all of the tools necessary (caulk, patching tools, safety gear, etc.) so that you don’t have to spend extra money buying or renting them. And there’s no risk of messing up and having to start over: a professional will know exactly the right brands and shades to use in order to achieve the effect you want. You won’t be left with a color that looked great on paper but ended up less than spectacular in real life.
3. Safety First
Hiring a professional painter means you won’t be putting yourself at risk trying to paint the high-ceilinged rooms or walking around on your roof trying to hit those hard-to-reach places on your exterior. Boston Painting Co. always makes safety- both yours and our own- a priority.
If you want to make certain your home is picture-perfect and ready to be shown, then give Boston Painting Co. a call. We’ll be happy to provide you with a free estimate for painting your interior and/or exterior, and we guarantee that we can have your home ready by your first open house.
